Hello Sweet Cakes!
This dress. From the moment I saw it staring at me through my computer screen on Unique Vintage I knew it would be mine. I'm not a particular fan printed dresses. I think it's beautiful, but for me simple is key. This dress, though, this dress is all sorts of fantastical prints! I thought it had that retro kitchen vibe with the pans & pots & kabobs & fish that just shouted Miss Semi Sweet.
So I treated myself on my birthday (May 20th) & bought this perfect summertime picnic dress!
I've always wanted to purchase a Bernie Dexter dress, but was always so cautious of the way the front of the dress hung in the front. I was always to afraid that my chest would look so broad & rectangular. That part though didn't bother me so much! It's a great dress to wear on those hot/humid days where you want to run around without a stitch of clothing on. The fabric is incredibly light weight, but also feels very sturdy & well sewn.
My two caveats however....
Now maybe I just have a short torso (which is highly likely), but the straps are constantly falling off my shoulders. I am constantly wishing that I was able to shorten the straps just a tad..
Now, I'm not a particularly small woman & I move quite a lot, but the zipper in back doesn't want to stay up at times. A small little clasp to hold it up or together would have been a lovely little touch in my opinion.
Now these aren't in my opinion a reason as to why I wouldn't buy a Bernie Dexter dress again, just something to consider. I'll probably go to my handy dandy seamstress & have her shorten the straps & add in a little clasp! Nothing too major, but something to make this dress a little more wearable for me!
