Hey there sweet cakes!
So if you follow me on Instagram....or Facebook.....or Twitter....you'll know that this week's recipe was inspired by the really talented youtuber, Grav3yardgirl. You'll also see that there is a Christmas tree in the background, which indicates that this was supposed to be uploaded a few weeks ago. I just wanted to keep the holiday spirit alive for you all! Your welcome.
Anywhos, Grav3YardGirl (Bunny), posted a picture of this gelatinous dessert on her SnapChat during Thanksgiving. I have never heard of it before, but I just assumed that it was a |CLASSIC| recipe.
Typed it into google & behold....a recipe from the 1950s pops up.
Coco-Cola Cherry Salad Recipe
- 1 - can cherry pie filling
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1 large packet of Cherry Gelatin (or 2 small packets, 3oz each)
- 1 can crushed pineapple + juice (7 1/2 oz)
Optional - 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 tub of cool whip
- 3 oz cream cheese
Boil the pie filling and water. Remove from heat and add the gelatin mix. Stir until mixed. Add the pineapple with its juice from the can, and add the Coke. Stir in the nuts and cool until set. Meanwhile, mix together the whipped topping and cream cheese and spread on the cooled and set salad. Serve.
Like I said in my YouTube video (which you should have watched by now!), it's jello & whip cream! There is nothing wrong with either.
Let's just add one more thing to the long list of things, I'm not a particular fan of...
I didn't like biting down into the jello & getting a giant cherry from the pie filling, but alas that is my opinion & another reason why I didn't add the nuts into the mixture.
I can certainly see why this sweet treat has stood the test of time in some families! Let me know in the comments down below if this is a staple dessert at your Thanksgiving or Christmas get togethers! Or is an jello recipe for that matter!
Don't forget to comment, like & subscribe! + share, sharing is caring or that's what I was told!
